Cuban Heavens

by Marie Rennard

Poetry

(Swans - May 31, 2010)

He fell head over heels for
A Cuban girl
Who was dancing like butterflies
In her dark hair a rose-bay
Gave to her eyes a touch of hell
She was moving she was moving
And he was caught.

He fell head over heels for
A Cuban girl
Who was sweating between his arms
In the wet night of Havana
And the blue cloud of his cigar
Gave to her hair a smell of hell
She was moving she was moving
And he was caught.

He fell head over heels for
A Cuban girl
Who was smiling like a demon
Playing new rhythm to his heart
A samba on the rocks
A mambo on the smokes
She was moving she was moving
And he was caught.

He fell head over heels for
A Cuban girl
He drank too much he drank too much
He married her
He fell head over heels
He was caught, he was caught.
He feels hell over him.
